Book Review: Never Play It Safe
book review self improvementNever Play It Safe reads like a stereotypical, rebellious, “believe in yourself” book that is reminiscient of another book we read, The Creative Act. More of a book with many encouraging and empowering anecdotes than an actual and practical book, Never Play It Safe was a mundane read, although we managed to plough through it. We may be biased. First, because we already had read The Creative Act and second, because self-improvement literature has already been inundated with so many feel-good books backed up by “scientific research” to go for it and chase your dreams that it really becomes quite a pedestrian topic.
Nevertheless, Mr. Chase Jarvis tells us about his life, how he went from a go-getter and pre-med student to an award-winning photographer. He identifies several levers that anyone can use that would help them unleash their creativity and confidence. He waxes lyric about chasing his dreams in spite of the odds, and so on. Overall, an encouraging but slightly boring read.
